The Furry Friends

Five Favorite Stories

About

Five delightful stories in one colorful book. Lighthearted, entertaining, and eternally relatable, these compelling vignettes teach children how to manage emotions and develop self-regulation through the trials and troubles of loveable animal characters.

Capturing the innocence of a young child, the characters in these stories make behavioral choices that get them into sticky situations. Young readers listen rapt wondering what will come of these uh-oh moments. Ultimately, the problems are resolved through the patient guidance of a caring adult.

Children aren’t the only ones who benefit from THE FURRY FRIENDS. These timeless tales give parents, teachers, and caregivers a tool at their fingertips that helps toddlers, preschoolers, and grades K-1 students get through life’s tough little problems.

This charming collection targets universal themes neutral to all cultures, genders, and home/school/childcare settings:

  • Little Chick learns to put away toys after playing with them.
  • Little Mouse learns not to ask for a Band-Aid when not hurt.
  • Little Raccoon learns not to color all over the walls and furniture.
  • Little Bunny learns to share.
  • Little Kitty learns to overcome shyness.

Children love returning to their favorite characters and their troublesome moments, knowing they will be lovingly supported and soothed in the end.

Praise for this book

This little book has joyful descriptions of typical, but difficult, feelings that young children have. It is sensitive to culture and demonstrates in a simple way how important it is for everyone -- even young children -- to care about other people. I highly recommend it for anyone who cares for young children and would like to talk about conflict, sharing, cooperation and caring.

I wish pre-school teachers would read this book with their students. My wife, who teaches 2nd grade, could have an easier time with the two or three socially-challenged kids each year.

I wish parents would read this book with their young children. It could make the transition to social situations (i.e. pre-school and kindergarten) a lot smoother.

I wish I'd read Little Chick when I was a kid. My home office would look a lot different!

Seriously: very positive, approachable and fun presentation. Useful life lessons without the evil wicked witches. Makes *even me* feel better about making good choices to 'play well with others'. Highly recommend!!

This little book is adorable, clever and fun. It is an enjoyable read. I highly recommend it for small children.

This is a great book for young kids! I am a teacher and have worked with kids from preschool to 8th grade. I'm constantly looking for books that I can use to start conversations about making choices. I've found this book to be a great resource to use in primary. The stories have problems and emotions that kids can relate to and the repetitions encourage kids to read the story along with you. The stories teach great lessons that you can refer to as situations arise.

A simple little book of cute animal stories, the tone is perfect, the language is right on and the messages are clear, and simple. I can't think of a book for young children that conveys important foundational concepts - responsibility, sharing etc - in such a cute, fun, accessbile way.
I was given this book as a present for my kids, I am actually buying several more for my adult coworkers, who could learn from this book too.

Bedtime, anytime. Small, sweet, short stories in a pocket-sized book!
Your child will learn five little life lessons as they get to hold and listen to one of their very first story books.
Enjoy watching your child connect with these lovable animal characters as they experience one of their earliest exposures to reading as a tool for becoming a life-long learner.
This book provides a simple way for parents to teach their young children to reflect on their own behavior through these familiar scenarios, setting the stage for little discussions and helping them make better choices in daily life and playtime.
